 The Island County Readiness to Learn Foundation links school districts and school buildings in Island County with other public and community resources in an effort to provide support to at-risk students and families. It is a means to meet basic needs and help create an environment that supports educational achievement. Program outcomes point to the benefits RTL collaboration has made. Poor health, chaos at home, and/or living in an unsafe environment negatively impact a child’s academic achievement. Educators often feel ill-equipped to deal with the complex social and economic problems students face which often become barriers to learning. RTL works with school administrators and educators to deal with those issues. |

Holiday House is Coming! Holiday House is an event in which adult family members shop for new and unwrapped holiday gifts for their children in a store-like environment. Last year over 600 local children were able to tear the gift wrap off of Holiday House gifts on Christmas morning. This astounding number truly shows the community’s dedication towards helping everyone.
 This year we are striving to expand the Holiday House and, based on the number of families who have requested help, our goal is to serve over 650 children! Such a goal needs impressive community support, which we, here at Readiness To Learn, have realized this community is quite capable of. We utilize drop boxes placed in a wide network of community businesses to gather toys for the Holiday House, however financial donations are also needed. These funds are used to purchase toys to ensure that youth of all ages receive gifts. Many of the donated toys are for younger children which enables us to use the funds for teenagers and their very specific gift wishes.
You are receiving this letter in early November because the Holiday House project takes several months to plan, coordinate, and execute. We are looking for volunteers, and gift drop box locations, as well as monetary donations. To volunteer, please call: 221-6808 ext. 4322.
